It was a Passat in wherever you were living back then, I'm sure!
My 6th grade band teacher had its predecessor the Dasher, and it was a hatchback and he wired in big home speakers in the back because the stock speakers were poor.

I can't name the car, but I believe the engine is Ford flathead from late 1940's to last year 1953. They had the front, side mount distributor and water connection at top, center of heads.

It looks awfully well done to be a swap, and why would you? (Other than that flathead's are great) I feel like the body at least is Italian - maybe Ghia, maybe Touring, but no badges. Later baby moon wheels by someone.
Maybe it IS a swap - someone took an old tired Fiat or something with a blown motor long ago, and swapped a sweet flathead Ford into it...?
