Volvo Repair Database 1999 Volvo V70 GLT AWD stuck in Park, hood latch is not working

Post by windsheardesigns »

I finally got my 450$ GLT to run "somewhat well" and was going to take it down to a local repair shop to have a fuel leak fixed when the gear shifter decided it felt comfortable staying in Park for the rest of eternity. No matter what I do, even if I hit the shiftlock override, I CANNOT get it to move into any other gear. (This is with the car on and running, no warning lights except a lamp indicator that turns on if I hit the brakes.

On top of this, the car decided It didn't want me to work on it anymore and the hood release under the grille wasn't releasing the hood. Does anyone know how to manually release it or do I need to get a shop to cut it open?

does it feel slack/loose/disconnected when pulling on the hood release? if so, does it feel like it's closer to the hood release or further away?

Depending on the failure point, this video may help.

If all else fails, just call Robert on his cell, the number is on his website and may be in the comments section of the vid. He's even in Chicago at the moment.

Had no idea you could call him. I've seen that video, and I think it's only for the hood release latch under the dash (Mine's about the second one below the grille.).

It feels disconnected and the handle doesn't do anything other than turn. There's a rod visible from inside the grille that seems to have popped off.

Pretty sure Robert shows how to get the turn signal assemblies out and use a wire to trip the latches. Seeing the latches from that angle helps understand how they work.
Call him on his cell, he likes the interaction, and since he's in Chicago he may be able to help. He is just as fine a fellow as one would imagine.
His cell number is usually in the vid comments, and is on his website www.robertdiy.com

If you don't have the plastic air guide installed under the sub-frame, you can reach up inboard of the trans line and behind the headlight, and trip the lever with your thumb that will release both latches.
Try to learn life's bad lessons vicariously through others.
