Well first of all, Hello!

I am 24, almost done with school, and I want a Volvo. Specifically I want a V70 Cross Country. Or so I think. I have two concerns before I buy though.

Firstly:
My last car was a '93 Civic that was dirt cheap to maintain and repair. So I am wondering how much more expensive a V70xc is going to be.

Secondly:
I think that a 2001 is the year I want. This is because I can get the second generation body style and size increases without spending too much to get it. (I'm 6'6" and about 250lbs, no small thing when choosing a car)

Why I want a Volvo:
I love to ski! And the parking lots at the local ski areas are dominated by Volvo XC's and Subaru Outback

You do NOT want an 01, the WORST year Volvo made.
A 1st year model frought with new car issues.
You may spend more then what you pay for the car in repairs in the 1st year!
Either find a GOOD 2000, some of the same issues with the drivetrain but not the transmission or an 03 with HALDEX.
Just stay away from 01's and to some degree 02's trust me on this or you will be still drawing on that student loan.
Personally if I were you, buy a Subie Outback

Thanks for the warning on the '01 there are a lot on craigslist locally, many price about $6000. I guess there is a good reason for it. Also, I will look into this haldex thing. maybe i can find an '03 at a killer price. thanks again.

I had a great one about 3 months ago sold for 11K and worth every penny of it.
You're better off finding a GOOD 80K mile 2000 for about the same price or a bit more. (2000's will bring a bit more than the comperable 01)
Do your research, go on to www.XC70.com and look at the transmission posts.

I will definately check out the site and start looking at the later gen. 1's and maybe a 2003 if i can find one cheap. Its great to have found a forum with such helpful members who know their topic well. I'm sure that as the research continues so too will the questions.

Thanks for being so helpful!
