I think you nailed it. My son's friend's dad had one of those... this was circa 2016... don't know if he still has it. He's Italian... actual Italian not Italian-American. Accent, Maserati, marble busts in foyer of his house, the whole 9 yards. Great guy.
For an Italian car it never looked great to my eye. Too much length mass, too long.

It's an Aston Martin Rapide S. Very elegant, very expensive, and I don't think they made many.
