Thought about getting one of those booster packs.

Much of my time during the job is spent hauling things up and down the stairs to the basement or in and out of the storage shed, or running back downstairs when I realize I need something else,or taking a break from standing out in the sun,or using flashlights or work lamps when it gets dark.

I found Crutchfield to be a great supplier. Good documentation and make it very easy to select the aftermarket unit for the XC.

I have 2 jump packs. One I have had for about 15 years or more and it has one of those old style batteries in it. Tried to use it this year and the darned thing wouldn't work. I was having difficulty finding out how to recycle it so decided to try and remove the battery and recycle that at least. On opening it I found bad corrosion on the battery terminals and broken of corroded wire ends.
A good cleaning of the leaked acid residue and repairing/replacing a few connectors and it was good to go again. I do have one of the newer style as well as my wife can take it with her on cold nights incase she has difficulty getting the car started. It works well.
I don't use them myself a whole lot as I have access to battery tenders if the cars are sitting or doing a lot of short runs. When it gets really cold here batteries can freeze and lose their cranking ability. It is handy when there are no power outlets for plug-ins to have this type of back up. It is like the conversation on headlight wiper/washers. For areas where you don't get slushy roads or cold temperatures these things are not really needed. Up here they are an advantage to have.

Emptied a 12 qt box of Valvoline High Mileage 5w30 today with two Mann HU819x filters, most recent ones made in Brazil and quality doesn’t look quite as good with uneven pleats. Probably fine at this mileage…

Took the 02 Xc70 belonging to our friends son up to where my mechanic friend now works. We had limited time but the aim was to replace the 2 O2 sensors and the long overdue/crusty fuel filter. Like all jobs should be straight forward. I had already wire brushed and soaked the parts with PB Blaster on a couple of occasions in the hope it would help.
My mechanic buddy used an impact chisel on the O2 sensors fairly gently and both came loose easily. The hardest part was fighting the stupid inaccessible clips on the cables. Tucked down below the brake booster. A few (read a lot) of engineering terms were used and eventually they were removed and the new ones fitted. I just need to rested the check light now.
The fuel filter was also a major pain. I had already loosened the filter bracket bolt so it came off easily. The filter would not come off for love or money!
My friend used a large pair of side cutters eventually and cut the input and output pipes off giving better access to the clips to release the the pipes. Again a lot of cursing as although the upper side of the clip worked fine, the loser part gets a fine rust powder into it over time and prevents the clip releasing. Loads of silicon oil spray and a small flat blade screwdriver was used to clear the crap out and then using a pair of needle nosed vice grips, the pipe ends finally came out. Fuel filter fitted.
Had hoped to get a look at flushing the brakes but that will have to wait for now.
Last thing was to look at the rear suspension for wear. It was obvious the bushes for the 2 short trailing arms at their front end were bad.
Also noticed what sounds like a front wheel bearing is not happy. It never ends...........

it's a pretty easy job, the stock radio is already double din behind the faceplate. the most time consuming for me was cutting faceplate to the right size. cut it small and snuck up on it by file
Oh, and running the camera wire through the existing plenum under the carpet took awhile.

not pictured is the double usb port that i got for the carplay/android auto usb and device usb for the head unit, it was a happy accident, but it fit the spot for the 12volt plug perfectly after i popped that out. I would suggest gettiing a unit that is based on android, so you can pull up a blue tooth obdII scan tool on the screen, get one that takes a sim and a cheap mint mobile plan or something and you can just use that for nav/music/etc rather than connecting to your phone. That's what i'll be upgrading to in the not too distant future.
