1996 Volvo 850 (Base) Vacuum Hose Inquiry

Post by jotoya »

Hello,

I am hoping to find out what diameter vacuum hose(s) I need for my 850. Based on this MVS excellent post: viewtopic.php?t=65002 it seems to me that that red vacuum hoses shown in the post are all the same diameter? 3/16 is mentioned. Obviously, different lengths. Is this correct?

I am specifically wondering about the hose that connects from the back of the air box and then underneath it and also the cruise control vacuum hose located underneath the battery tray which I believe it goes back through the firewall and into the cabin.

Many thanks.

I think they were 4 or 5mm from the factory, and 3/16 is right in between, so you should be good with that. I think all vacum hoses except the large one for the crank ventilation are the same diameter.

Thanks again Clemens

I wanted to post a quick follow-up that the 3/16 is not correct unless the proper connector/coupler tags along. The post (link) that I referenced in my OP turned out to be a 1/4 inch (6.3mm). The latter will fit over the nipples (airbox, CC vacuum) without connectors/couplers. As the referenced linked post shows, a zip tie will do the trick for extra security.

I've attached a pic of the line that I picked up at Advanced Auto Parts:

I have had good luck using thick wall silicone tubing, diameter 4, 6, 8mm to cover different hoses in the engine bay on my 1997 855. One good source is https://www.verociousmotorsports.com/ve ... y-the-foot
