I removed the blower fan last night because it's not working properly, was entirely dead on Monday morning (fortunately there was enough self-draft to keep the windows clear), then it worked again when I went home.

This is what happens when you don't got a cabin filter (I have fitted one a few weeks earlier)

I cleaned the fan, oiled the bearings and put it back together. It does start but rpms are not consistent on max speed. I will need to remove it again and test it on my 12V bench supply, if it runs steadily there when the wiring is the issue, perhaps brad ground, or perhaps further "upstream" at the MCC unit.

A few days ago, I saw (for us up here) for sale at a bargain price a load cover for a P80 wagon. They just don't come up for sale. Now I don't need one, but I have been keeping an eye out for one for my ex-Volvo mechanic buddy for his 97 850 AWD. He needs the beige (ish) color cover not the dk. gray/black version. By this time both ends, or at least one, is usually broken off from over zealous use or dropping it.

Found the seller was near where I used to live and about 10 minutes from my house now.

Took a run over and met the nicest guy. Story was his 97 wagon was totaled outside his house by a drunk driver rear ending it parked on the road. That was 7 years ago, but he finally decided to clear the garage of any parts left over including the load cover.

$20 CDN later and it was mine,. The miracle is it is mint and both covers are intact! The seller would really like to go back to a Volvo but now drives a faux Volvo (Ford Flex AWD). That is also possibly getting crapped after a senior ran a stop sign and hit the side. So a Volvo may be in his future!

As usual, there was a bag of parts that I could have for nothing as he was going to junk them. A new aftermarket P80 turbo MAF, a couple of P80 front brake flexi-hoses (Centric), a near new swaybar link as well. The rest was junk but it was all appreciated as it will find new homes.

My buddy is totally thrilled!! The downside?? He then asked me if I knew how to install it as his car had never had one...............!

Oh, boy, I guess add that to the planned repair of the dash mounts in his car for him.

Yes, but if it was only the grey version as mine has a broken end where it was dropped during our hose move.

They are? It came with my 850 and still seems to work.

I've not had as nice a day, snow storm, then the blower stopped working halfway to work, I have not reassembled the glovebox or anything, I felt the connector and one of the wires was hot enough to burn. I assume this means the blower motor itself is drawing too much current. I guess my attempted lubrication of the bearings did not help.

Then the CEL light came on....

This past Saturday, I replaced the blower motor resistor and all the clips in the rear hatch cover.

Today I reattached the grille with more thoughtful zip ties, and fabricated a new pull for the hood safety latch... which had been a zip tie :/

This weekend i am going to chase down the reason my seat heaters aren't working, and get into the rear passenger door to see why none of the handles will open it.

Unfortunately, Blue Steel's steering rack didn't respond to the Lucas stop leak stuff I put in there, so off to my indie shop it went.

Last week, the T5 had the alternator light going on intermittently, which I attributed to a bad ground somewhere. Now it looks like it has a parasitic draw, too. When I went to check on it today, the nearly new battery had 5 volts! Would a bad ground cause the battery to draw down like that?

Hi Neil,

You are going to need the plastic templates to drill the mounting holes in the side trim. I am pretty sure I still have them from ions ago, because I never trow anything out  Let me know and I will start digging.

That would be awesome. I have done them before using a paper template from a car that already has the holes. It was tricky but it worked.

Having the tool would be great. Let me know if you can find them and I'll cover postage and return. If you can't find them it is not a problem, I'll do it the hard way instead!

Many thanks,

Neil.
