that was one of my thoughts too, i pinched every Vacuum line from the intake manifold and tested with the engine running, no changes at all...

Wednesday my R is at the Volvo-shop (40years in service) and hopefully with a simple solution.

I'll keep you guys posted.

Just got a call from the "Volvo-Guru", he can't find any fault.

i don't know that else to do...

i'm still on the point that the engine gets false-air, need to re-think what to do...

Did your guru smoke test all the intake pipes? The like to get small tears in them. I had to replace the rubber hose from the turbo at the intercooler end on an 02 XC and also the plastic hose from the exit of the intercooler to the throttle body as it was cracked.

Hi, sadly i think the "guru" did not really search anything, weird guy...

i did smoke all intake and charging pipe without any findings.

Still searching what event i'm seeing was first, my intention tells me to check if the symptoms are internal or external from the ECM, in other way, are all inputs to the ECM clear and steady or does the ecm only react to outside parameters changing and act "normal" in its possibilites since there are no fault codes present.

Need to have a drink on that and check not to chase my own tail.

Any leak in the induction path on a turbo will really mess it up.

Morning,

Yesterday i removed all the vacuum lines, checked all connections, hoses etc.

One check Valve (the one from EVAP Valve to intake Air pipe) didn't close at the first test, on second, third attempt it closed.

The Vacuum Ejector seemed fine, it was just a bit oily, so i cleaned it and checked function again.

The TCV Valve was also on my List, after a bit of reseraching i checked the closed "non powered" positon and was able to blow through it. Not easy as to blow through an open hose, but to get some air through it.

Since both parts are not that expensive, i ordered both and keep on working on other items.

Currently all enginge mounts, changing all parts of the front suspension (277.000km on it)

Sounds like you are keeping yourself really busy! Let us know if you find a fix. Hopefully those 2 possibly challenged parts are the solution.

Since i'm way overdue with TÜV and thus can't drive the car anymore,i thought i can revolve the rest of the R to good condition.

My Plan is to get it all done including TÜV for end of december.

Another Update, The Volvo that keeps on giving...

I wrenched a lot yesterday, wanted to fix the coolant leak behind from the pipe behind the waterpump, nice to know now that the exhaust manifold needs to be removed too, but luckily all bolts came loose and it's not that bad at all.

Further i found that two of the wires leading to the ignition coils (green white - so +12v?) are shorting to the head or almost shorting, isolation is more or less gone, fixed it temporarely with heat shrink tube, need so sort out what connectors etc and redo the harness.

Plan for this weekend (inculding bbq, beer and a buddy) to redo the front axle, struts etc, front torsion bar incl. mounts, and undo all futher faults we find.

Allright, after another wrenching weekend, starting Friday after work, ending sunday 6pm i think i got the car mechanically sorted out.

What was fixed / replaced:
- both front struts
- both link arms
- all bearings / rubber bushings in/on the front axle
- O-Ring for the main water pipe (nice job, will recommend...not!)
- ex. manifold gaskets (at least two were not right, cylinder 1+5)
- all gaskets around the turbo

Some engineers at volvo are really good at their job, others i think are just working there for the coffe. Who sorted out that you need to undo all exhaust parts just to get one 2€ O-Ring replaced... boy what cost just for work... My Benz 124 280TE was way better in that case.

and now the good and the bad. Car started right up after all that, all seems to be tight, no leaks. The Idle Problem is still present.

The R will be moved today to my workshop of trust, lets see what will be the result.

Further To do if passed TÜV, replacing the turbo, cracked housing at the wastegate and a little bit of shaftplay... but that after TÜV
