Hi guys, Noob here.
I have a 99 C70 coupe T5 with 270000km
Issue 1:
There is a creaking/clicking sound that happens every time i engage or disengage the throttle, there also seems to be a small amount of slack before it engages. The sound is definitely loudest in 1st but still happens in other gears with reduced intensity, turning doesnt seem to affect the sound. Was thinking could be engine/transmission mounts.
Issue 2:
There is a scraping sound coming from my front right wheel, it seems to vary in intensity as the wheel rotates. I have reseated the wheel with no effect, apparently previous owner hit quite the pothole with that wheel so is very possibly the cause. Was thinking could be wheel bearing.
Is there any way I can properly diagnose either of these issues?
many thanks,
Dan

For the wheel issue. Check the simple stuff. In this case, look at the brake dust shield. They can get bumped and so rub on the brake rotor.
Wheel bearing is possible, but what you describe could be the support bearing has lost it's grease. While I know it is not conclusive (as I found out), find a quiet piece of road, and weave side to side to load up the wheel bearings. If the noise increase when turning left, it is likely your right wheel bearing, and turning right the left bearing. For my car, neither wheel bearing seemed noisy, but as Abscate said, the weaving is not a 100% proof as the wheel bearings may not always behave that way as he has found. For my car I ended up swapping the wheel bearings and the axle support bearing. For your car, the axle support bearing is not shown. It is still listed for 850's which uses the same one. FCP has a Febi Bilstein one for around $20 or so.
As for the other engine issue. You have already mentioned the likely culprits. Engine mounts and torque rod bushes (upper and lower).
Check the mount under the crank pulley on the RHS has not separated from the metal base. Remove the RHS front wheel. Support the car on an axle stand and then gently raise the engine with a floor jack with a piece of wood as a load spreader under the RH end of the oil pan and look for a gap opening up between the rubber engine mount and the metal base plate.
The top torque mount has the larges affect on a clunk when gears change. Check the bush inner has not split away from the outer.

Hi Neil,
Thankyou very much for the response, will check all those shortly, is it possible to check the transmission torque mount?

The lower torque mount does fail. It is really designed just to take a relatively small amount of linear front to back rocking motion. It generally fails in my experience with the rear smaller bush failing. Try moving the center section of the torque rod side to side to se if has separated the inner and out part of the bush. Of all mounts it has the least affect on the car if it fails.
