I was a bit concerned because of the corrosion I saw towards the bottom of the threads of the snapped bolt, but I had it soaking in PBlaster for a few weeks, and after pounding the ez-out in with a mallet, it spun out so easily I thought the ez-out wasn't biting and was just spinning in the hole. Now it's on to the fun part and deciding if I want to shell out the money and have the cylinder head looked over and stem seals replaced by a machine shop, or try doing it myself.

I still don't know if the stem seals were the source of the smoke, or maybe the turbo seals. With the engine having been replaced, I have no idea if the turbo was replaced at the same time, and if not, did whatever killed the original engine also damage the turbo? My reasoning behind thinking it's the stem seals are the fact that it's a known problem, and the goop in cylinder two under where the exhaust valves had been sitting open. There didn't seem to be excessive carbon on the pistons or on the head but the plugs were pretty fouled. Turbo shaft has almost no play in it at all.

Definitely do the seam seals use Volvo kit, there is part number to buy the whole set that costs half as much as 20x individuals.

Im in the UK in January twice, so I can bring back a Skandix order. I have a set of Volvo seals in stock, if I can find them.

Hunts Machine Shop upstate in Albany is excellent, his shop rates are on the web and are really reasonable.

Update on this car, I have the head back from the machine shop with the Volvo steam seals installed, he said the exhaust valves were only holding 8psi in his test, spec was over 20. Valves ground, now cleaning up the block and there are these stains.

Can't catch them with a fingernail but I just don't remember the last block being this dirty. Looks like stains from the graphite gasket.

Scotchbrite pad will clean those up and they will seal fine

Use the Volvo or Corteco gasket.
