There is an 02 Xc70 for sale that the owner is claiming only has about 150,000km (94k miles). However he claims his mechanic says the car has this mileage even though the whole DIM display is blank. Can the mileage be read with Vida or an Autel even in this condition?
The owner wants about $3000 US for the car and the pictures look like a tidy car. Price seems high unless the mileage can be proven and even then it is high for the year.
Thanks,
Neil.

I just re-read the post. Yes with a non-working DIM in the car, the car can still be READ just fine by VIDA. The mileage is actually stored in several modules PDM, DDM, ECM, DIM and a few more which I cannot remember. It is wise for all of them to be checked(but I don't think it's exposed by VIDA) to ensure that a module has not been replaced or main ECM and DIM tampered with

little late to the game but i know that my Foxwell scanner can pull mileage, and i suspect that is from the ECM and not the DIM.
Mileage will show up in other ways on cars. We have a spout of odometer rollbacks up here in Canada so i like to check a few other things to verify maintenance. I talked to one lady who bought an 09 with a hell of a lot more mileage on it than the 100km reported on the odometer. Pull the oil cap and look under it, does it have a lot of caked on oil or is it cleaner/just varnished. Check the wear on the drivers seat, does it still feel firm or is it very much worn out. If the story is the car has not been driven a lot then check the tires for tread and when they were purchased. Very old tires with a lot of tread will help validate such a low mileage claim in my experience. Also check the oil level, coolant level, and the respective colours to confirm condition. Also check the tranny fluid on the 02's as i believe the earlier volvos had transmission issues.
Check why the person is selling the car, a recent purchase + resell usually is a flip/something is wrong. If its original owners then i tend to trust that a bit more. If you can get under the car with ramps then look at the rust/wear on the underbody. Parking on grass will really do a number on most cars even if they are low mileage.
Finally, buy the carfax for the car. Out here in ontario we used to have a drive clean program where we could look up when cars passed. They have since killed that but it helped out with some car verification. Hope it goes well

With 850 OBDII App can read from your ECM and TCM at moment additionally to CEM your odometer ("Total Distance") when you do a Scan at Service on P2 Platforms.
Be noted not all ECM ME7(and 7.01) or TCM save and the save location is blank on late model P80 models but on P2 Platform many does save and App will show it then at Summary view very top and when you click on reading i written does it come from TCM, CEM, CEM...
So in Service >> Scan.. just select these and Press Start Scan
P.S. If have 2005 or newer P2 Platform model then in App Settings need change CAN Bus year setting so App can get contact to modules as i didnt make it automatic per design of the App being individual per module.

Great info guys. I will look into this. I think I still have 850 OBD2 App. Did not know it can fork on mewer than 98 cars!
Only problem with that car is it is a long way away from here, so a long drive to find it may have been doctored. Good thing that it can be checked even with a non-operating DIM.
Many thanks.
Neil
