Volvo Repair Database 2009 V70 HVAC blower only works on 100% setting, stops within 4 seconds if switched to lower setting

Post by piwikiwi »

Hi there,

I recently had a soaked car interior after a windshield leak, the next day the HVAC failed (only running at extreme low setting with only warm air, uncontrollable).
My Volvo guy has replaced the CCM with a flashed one and also the blower resistor with a new one. He thought it was fixed.

When I went to pick it up it was clear that it wasnt a complete success.

The blower motor only runs if you turn the blower OFF and then move it to 100% (all bars on display lit) in one swift knobtwist, it runs fine at 100%.

If I move the fanknob from OFF to the lowest setting (one bar on the display) the blower works at the low setting for about 4 seconds an then shuts off.

Moving the knob from OFF to anywhere between minimum and maximum power results in the blower blowing for about 1 second before switching off. The only way to get the blower running again (and keep it running) is to go to OFF and then in one swift movement to 100%.

My Volvo guy thinks the blower is running with some drag resulting in it only spooling up if you select 100%, I disagree because the blower appears to run at all powersettings but quits after a short delay if not at 100%.

He hopes it will clear up after a few days….I’m giving it a chance but feel there’s something else going on: possibly some kind of powercontrol unit or somesuch. I think there’s a unit directly to the right of the accelerator pedal behind the plastic midconsole that clicks every now and then, possibly related?

Can anyone shed some light on what could be going on?
Thanks very much and happy holidays,

Paul
