2001 S80 T6 Siren Module Location?

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

2001 S80 T6 Siren Module Location?

Post by vegasjetskier »

Can anyone tell me where the siren module is located on a 2001 S80 T6? I'm getting the "Alarm System Service Requied" message and want to check out the module. Thanks.

The siren control module is with the siren in the front right corner of the engine compartment.

The battery is a re-chargeable type.

Having read through several pages of diagnostic checks, I have found DTC code GLA-312: siren internal battery fault. This fault code will set after 2 seconds if the module registers the voltage in the internal battery is less than 2.5 volts when the alarm is powered up, activated or de-activated. The LED will flash for 15 seconds after the ignition is switched on.

The majority of the diagnosis is done with a scan tool so, unless you have one, I shall skip to the part of interest.

After running checks for loose/bad connections, blown fuses etc. we come to "Remove siren. Replace battery in siren." At this point the DTCs have to be erased before it can be determined that the battery was the problem.

I hope this helps.

Thanks. So they want me to replace the battery, then run a test to see if it really was the battery that was bad. Then, I guess if the battery wasn't bad I'll have to replace the whole module? Volvo never ceases to amaze me with how hard they make it to work on their cars. It's like they deliberately engineer it so it's a bitch to fix.

Hi, Bill. Are you sure it's in the engine compartment? I can't find it in there and someone told me it's in the right front wheelwell in front of the fender liner.

My apologies. Looking at the picture on VADIS it appears to be in the front right corner of the engine compartment. However, going back to the older book, with the full diagnostics for the alarm system, it says it is in the right front wheel well. VADIS is not very precise on some locations.

Not at all. They engineer it so that you have to go to a dealer to have it fixed.

All of the diagnostics on the alarm system require the Volvo scantool and to test if the battery was at fault, and to reset the alarm system, the fault codes have to be erased using..........of course, the Volvo scantool. They have you each and every way.
