WTB: Cross bars/roof rack for the 98' S/V70 (Northern VA)

Post by BrokeInCollege »

Hello! This is my second post on here I think? Loving this car, its my college commuter and my little baby. Anyways, I am looking for a set of cross bars for my 98' S70 so I can finally pack my spare and other luggage. It already has the mounting holes, and I'm trying to avoid going for the rails as I want to keep that original trim above the doors.

I'm based in Northern VA and I am willing to pay shipping if that's the only option. Thank you for taking the time to read :D .

Do you know the part numbers for these? You can leave the trim I and only cut the holes for the rails of course, it looks very factory

I'm not sure about the part number, I've been searching for a while now. I know that the OEM bars are Thule made and that's about it. I can go to their website and drop $450 on what I'm sure is a great product, but I don't see that in my future...

As an aside, I do remember you posting a reply in a probably ancient forum post about how you made a set of cross bars for your Volvo with some lumber pieces? I could be completely wrong but if that was you, do you mind sharing some wisdom there? It sounds like something I could absolutely do.

Sweet! Is it a pair of cross bars, or just the one. Regardless, what would you like for them? Very interested!

I knew I wasn't crazy! What else are fathers for besides solving tricky problems like that. That writeup and photo is very helpful, this will undoubtedly be the route I take if I don't get this sorted by summer time.

Abscate has a fleet of wagons, you seem to have a sedan. That rig will only work with the stock fore-and-aft rails, and fabricating the athwartship crossmembers.

You seem to be looking for the cross roof bars that clamp under the drip rail ?
