ECM interchange '05 V70

Post by Faust »

This is probably answered here someplace, but I can't find it. Probably don't know the right search term. In any case, can ECMs be interchanged. In short, can a junkyard "brain" be used in another car? I seem to recall that they would at least need reprogramming.

If they can be reused, then they will likely need reprogrammed as they have Vin# information stored in them as well as information like mileage.

Direct re-use, no. It needs reprogramming.

Blow your flash and EEPROM chips off with hot air and transfer to the donor.

its a WORM board, Write Once Read Many.
Can't be rewritten,
VTL says swap the 2 chips , there are videos on youtube for DIY ,
myself I'd send the 2 ECM's to a service and have them do it.
