Temp gauge 86 245

Post by prmcgov1 »

New owner to an 86 245 here! Something I’ve noticed is that when I turn on the car and start driving, the temp gauge indicates that the motor heats up pretty quickly and within about 5 min the needle is up near the red. My commute is only about 7 min, and sometimes I see where it will drop back down toward the middle, but not always. I assume this is abnormal, and if I’m right, is this a thermostat issue, a gauge wiring issue, or something more sinister? Thanks!

As soon as possible determine the true engine temp. If actually overheating, you want to repair it immediately.
Possible failures are low coolant level. an air bubble in the coolant system, clogged cooling system, bad thermostat, temp sensor, or gauge.
