How to test a coil, difference between primary and secondary?

I looked into this for the 850 series in 2020... don't know if the 1998 70 series is the same:

According the the Haynes manual for the 850 (may be different than the 1998 S70), the coil primary should read between 0.5 to 1.5 Ohms and the secondary should read between 8000 and 9000 Ohms for 1994 and on. I checked my spare coil (from a '96) and got values in that range. For pre-1994 B5252S engines, the primary resistance is "not specified" and the secondary should be between 6000 and 7000 Ohms.

Primary refers to the resistance between the two lug terminals.
Secondary refers to the resistance between the Coil tower (plug leading to the Distributor and case ground.
You should consider resistance measurements as necessary but not sufficient, data to confirm a good part, ie values in spec mean the coil is potentially, but not confirmed, in working condition.
Values out of spec are 99% sufficient to confirm a bad part.

Yes, 98 S70 coil is exactly the same as a 95+ 850.

According to the FCP website one of the Volvo part numbers is 1275174.
The Bosch part number is 0221601012
