Re: What did you do to your P2 Volvo today?
I have begun removing the Aw55 fwd version. Before I even disconnect the shifter cables, should the transmission be in any position other than park and is there anything related to the position of the pnp switch before removal as I recall someone having a problem after the shifter cables and pnp switch didn't align.

No. PNP switch you can shift with fingers. I'm lazy, I shift transmission out of P and back at the engine bay when I remove driveshaft and my hands are too dirty for the clean cabin.dikidera wrote: ↑05 Mar 2025, 02:18 I have begun removing the Aw55 fwd version. It takes angler grinder under one minute to make one piece a two piecesscot850 wrote: ↑04 Mar 2025, 17:00 What brand of muffler are you going to use? I need to replace the XC70 06MY one. Trouble is the OE parts are over $1000 CDN for just the rear muffler section. We replaced the previous one about 10 years ago and 60k miles with an OE part. The dealer fitted it for us as it required cutting the rear muffler off (it came originally as a one piece from cat to tailpipe). This part looks clean on the outer section with no obvious leaks, but I think the inner case is holed making it sound funny. It is also a pain as it comes with the pipe clamp included but you can't buy it separately. Ours keeps leaking from that joint and I'd like to replace the clamp.
Neil.
Volvo exhaust is the best and the longest living. You can go with cheap options from Poland, but they tend to rust/burn in a few years.
Also use exhaust/muffler putty on joints.

I have finished for today, I only did prep work. Tomorrow is the subframe down and steering rack. Now, sadly I don't think I can find a replacement rack soon enough, is there anything at all I can attempt to fix inside this one where it leaks? It leaks from the shaft itself, not from the o-rings of the pipes.
The subframe's bushings look horrible, real bad. I think I might replace them.
I forgot to mention, I have backflushed the replacement transmission so any gunk in the filter will be removed as best as I could.

Can leave the steering rack hanging, just strap it to front coil springs. Better to unbolt it from the steering shaft, to avoid overstressing it.dikidera wrote: ↑05 Mar 2025, 06:19 I have finished for today, I only did prep work. Filter replacement with transmission out of the car is not that difficult. Remove torque converter, undo bazillion bolts, remove the bell housing and here you go: see the filter. It is also the best time to replace the valve body, since access is so much easier

Aha, but that is wherein the problem lies. I won't be able to seal it properly
. For the VB I have a gasket, but the bellhousing is a different monster. Not that worried though I'm certain with all the backflow I did, I will have prevented a future problem from occurring. VB, too expensive, and I've already overspent here.
The steering rack is most important now, how to handle it. I don't have much time, if I did I would've found a replacement, if I was certain I could fix it, I would.

Transmission case is just any oil-resistant RTV.dikidera wrote: ↑05 Mar 2025, 06:59 Aha, but that is wherein the problem lies. I won't be able to seal it properly. Yeah but my ability to correctly apply is in question. Trust me, after I botched the cam cover and it still leaks to this day that I had to plaster it with RTV all over the sides, I know I ain't one for that particular job.
