It's almost tropical here today, we were told the temperature was going to go up to 18°C but it seems to have pegged out at 15.7°C so I decided to finish off Kära with a polish as it hasn't been done in two years.
I had noticed the lower door area wasn't as smooth as it once was but overall the car wasn't in need of anything too drastic so a hand polish was done on all the paintwork then rather than wax it I decided to try the Gtechniq C2 Ceramic sealant. I've read it should last around 6 months so it will be interesting to see how that pans out.
Local authorities are still salting the roads up here so I'm not going to be dressing the tyres just yet.
What did you do to your P2 Volvo today?

I'm pretty much impressed with your OCDP80GLT wrote: ↑21 Mar 2025, 09:58 It's almost tropical here today, we were told the temperature was going to go up to 18°C but it seems to have pegged out at 15.7°C so I decided to finish off Kära with a polish as it hasn't been done in two years.

Went to the local auction to look at a 07 XC70 that is just come in. A friend is looking for one so I went to check. Other than them annoying me by saying they had not got they key as the car had not been 'parked' yet or whatever that meant, they had advertised the car with pictures. Anyway I could look around it but could not start it to check if it ran, or check for codes or trans operating. I thought it was strange they had listed as 'unreserved' which is not usual for any P2 if at all.
I found the car and fortunately it was unlocked so I could at least open the doors and the hood to give it a visual.
I knew it had a check engine light from the description, the radio did not work and the windshield was cracked.
Initially it look fairly good body wise.
Well the faults I found on a brief look quickly explained the reason for the pricing decision.
All 4 of the tires were racing slicks. I have seldom seen tires with nearly no tread on they. I'm sure that did the AWD system lots of good as they were worse on one side than the other.
The rear muffler was falling apart and the rear mounting bracket was destroyed and being held in place by nylon rope. The front muffler was also leaking based on the carbon residue.
At least one of the front 4C shocks was leaking but I could not see the rears.
The interior was not too bad.
But to me the clincher for rejecting it was I found the tailgate outer skin (plastic?) was cracked. Not sure how you do that but it had a 2" crack at the LH end of the outer handle and license plate recess. The paint on the top of the tailgate was also scraped through.
The car had about 160k miles on it but looked like most of it may have been done living a hard life.
The cost of the repairs I could see easily out did the value of the car even in perfect condition. So even free it was too expensive to buy and return to the road in my opinion. Sure, you could spend a lot of time trawling for used parts to repair the car but that did not make sense to me. I guess working on the 02 XC70 that was a 'free' car shows that what you think you know can be just the tip of the iceberg. The most sensible course of action was to buy and part out.
Shame.
Neil.

That's just one of many
Funnily enough she isn't in the garage very often but she did venture in last week and the first question she asked was "What have you been buying recently?"

The Audi sign is positioned next to where the Audi used to sit.
The Romans met a woman very much like my wife, that was more than enough to make them decide a wall was required to stop them crossing over into the hallowed turf. Just a shame the wall is in pieces now...
