Engine cuts out after start. 1993 Volvo 850 non turbo

Post by BigLib »

OK, apologies ahead of time about the length I don't know how to explain it. I was putting on a new intake hose and the small hose coming of the fire trap fell apart. I got a new hose and to the best of everything I can learn it's supposed to go to the nipple on the passenger side intake manifold. There is not nipple there, just a plat plate. I learned this is some kind of mod. So I put everything back together and now it starts strong, runs great for a few seconds then cuts out. What do I need to look for? My MAF is plugged back in and there is no little hose running to the fire trap because there is a plug instead of a nipple on the passenger side of the manifold.

I am not a mechanic so don't be afraid to ask me questions a dog could easily answer.

Vacuum line from flame trap on early 850 doesn't go to pass.side of intake manifold.
It goes to the vacuum tree.

Problem is that....that little vacuum hose will not prevent the car from stay running.
You would hardly notice any difference in engine running when it's unplugged.

I would re-check intake manifold gasket.
It could be pinched during installation.
