As I have said many times, here in the wild west (Oklahoma) anything goes as we have no vehicle inspection program.
But if you purchase a vehicle from another state, the VIN must be confirmed before you can get a title.

All cars in the UK are legally required to have a first MOT (Ministry of Transport test) at 3 years old and every year after that until they reach the age of 40 years old when they are classed as historic vehicles, then they do not require annual test. If the owner of a 40+ year old car wished he can however part with £55 GBP and have a test done. From speaking to my MOT tester he said the number of cars that fail their first test when the car is 3 years old is higher than one would expect and it rises as the cars get older. Many car owners put their car in for an MOT and possibly a service once a year and do nothing but drive it without doing any checks, hence the reason the number of fails rise as the cars age.
EDIT:
I don't ever remember the 1st April weather being this nice and with 6 months VED paid it would have been rude not to venture out in Val today.

No doubt when Val is parked next to Kira, Wagner parts are shared by both.

^^^ Yes...yes you are.
I'm with lugnut in the wildness of west where something with tires and headlights is legal. I'm always surprised by the strict MOT (and European) safety checks, but I am also impressed, and convinced your cars must be about 1000% safer.
If I'm browsing used (and new!) sketchy wheels and I see that German TUV approval, I'm quite pleased that unless they're bent, they are good.

Fixed my center console again. The only thing stopping the hinge (and the weight of the armrest/cover) is the console plastic, not a design masterclass by Volvo
Feel like it could have had a metal stop added to the hinge, however I didnt feel like rengineering the whole thing so I just glued the broken plastic back together

Today I cleaned the cabin air temp sensor and got rid of my ECC DTCs / flashing lights on climate control panel subsequently.
Also fitted better door lights (red ones) as I had 2 missing / broken.
Replaced my broken steering column tilt lever with a fresh V70 part.
Fitted the missing rubber seal at the driver side door connector

Finally had the PCV system renewed the other day.

When you pulled the cabin temperature sensor out from behind the dashboard, did the rubber seal come out with it? It often ends up dropping down between the dashboard and the cover on the LHS of the foot well area, or gets stuck where it comes out from behind the dashboard. It is there to seal under dash heat out from the sensor.
Very productive day it looks like!

Went to the junkyard to try to find a decent H7 headlight bulb connecter for inside the P80 headlight. I don't like to cut a pigtail out of a 'good' headlight. I only do it from a broken or badly de-silvered unit. Needles to say they were all worse than what I have. I will have to submit to buying some from Alibaba I guess.
Needless to say, a bunch of unnecessary stuff also followed me home. My Kriptonite got me again. A partly hidden under seat amplifier and harness with junk in front of it. Hate to see then wasted, but I think I already have at least 7-8?!
Also 2 S70's with trunk spoilers (neither with the light in them). One had the brackets in place so those came home with me. Hate to leave the spoilers (red metallic and black) but awkward to store and ship, and I already have a white one in the stash.
A nice Volvo LH headlight and lens also followed me home. Again I have a bunch, but not often finding Volvo OE ones. It will also need a pigtail repair. It can join the other LH headlight I have also needing a pigtail and the 93-94 (early tall LH headlight) I got a couple of days ago from a low mile car in a yard that needs cleaned.
Also found the center console rear sections in wood finish for the rear seat passengers. I seldom ever find those but today found 2. Along with that what I believe to be a walnut finish auto shift leaver. Naturally needs the button bit wood looks ok.
Lastly a dashboard light dimmer with 2 intact retaining clips! Again rare to find them with not one or both broken.
So reasonable haul I think.
Neil.

Rubber seal stuck to the dash and luckily did not drop during reassembly. Thanks for the heads-up!scot850 wrote: ↑01 Apr 2025, 15:27 When you pulled the cabin temperature sensor out from behind the dashboard, did the rubber seal come out with it? That seal as you may have found clips into the end of the temp sensor unit with 4 small rubber tabs.
