A/C failed to cool so I took to 3 local repair shops. These forums indicate that refill should be done through high pressure port. None of them would refill from high pressure port so I called the closest Volvo dealership (2 hours away) & they wouldn't even look at a vehicle over 15 years old. I called a Volvo dealership in Wichita (7 hours away) & the service department told me that they used the low pressure port for adding refrigerant. I guess my best alternative is to evacuate it myself, & add the required amount of 134a through the low pressure side. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

Does you A/C compressor cycle? Worn clutch is #1 why A/C does not work in this car.
Filling A/C up is pretty easy DIY job. But first find out where it leaked from. A/C condenser is the most probable candidate. Evaporator core may leak, too, and it's a hell of a job to replace it. Other possibility is expansion valve stuck, this one can be replaced from the engine bay, I think.

Mine leaked. Unsure if it took 2 years or 1 month. No obvious signs.
Since these take a kilo, which costs something like 120 euro, I think I will fill only half. If it worked when it was nearly empty it will work half full until I find the leak

In the donor I bought for drivetrain and interior transplantation there was a hole in the condenser. Didn't have to evacuate anything, nothing left. Zero pressure. Just vacuum and fill.

Surprisingly enough, the compressor runs constantly. My 2004 V70 AWD needed the "bread clip" repair, but engages & disengages, and works great. I am confused as to why this one would run constantly, even when refrigerant low (I checked low side pressure with gauge, it was zero).

Need to evacuate as open to atmosphere means moisture and contaminants got in there which will kill a compressor. Vacuum should hold 500 micron or under after shutting pump off.
Always best to purge with nitrogen first.

It was empty already, nothing I could do. If by evacuating you mean vacuuming, then yes, I did vacuum it well. Took quite a bit of time, since all that moisture was evaporating and evaporating...
