Revisiting the Fairthorpe, it was just too weird a story to pass up for the thread.
From Wiki:
"Fairthorpe Ltd was founded by Air Vice Marshal Donald Bennett..." in '54, with motorcycle engines and sort of sold as complete cars, but kits too. A follow-on model had a Coventry Climax engine for a short while.
Then in '67 his son Torix - I did not make that up - joined the company, and designed the series of TX cars. One source says ca.50 built of the early cars.
Then they built this:

9 days ago on University at DU... I was going to shout out to the driver how incredible this car is, but the car in front of me did first.  I called off Operation Call Out at that point. The guy probably gets a hundred compliments a day. I didn't want to overdo it.

This is the only photo I got. We were at a stoplight, city traffic, etc. Trust me, it was every bit as good as this photo suggests, possibly museum quality.

BlackBart I should have given warning so you could take some heart medication.

Yep not tii. That would have been a real mindbender.

What's a good guess for the year, 1980? Earlier?

Wiki link to 2002 history. 1972-77 years.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_02_Series

I'm surprised they ran to 1977 as I had a first year UK BMW 3 series 320 (carb and 2l engine) and it was a 1976 car I bought in 1983. It was my first car out of university. It broke a lot, but it had had a bad previous owner and I got it as it was cheap. My Dad had a door damaged when using my 1968 Volvo123GT. I needed a car to get to my first job in Swindon, SW England so had to get a temp car. Ended up keeping it for maybe 4 years as it took 2 years to find a door for the 123GT. You could no longer buy new so we had to look for a used one and 2 door 120's were rare in the UK. It was finally sold to a crazy Iranian buddy of mine who eventually took it backwards through a hedge into a field writing it off at high speed. 123 GT was also written off when my younger brother was using it and was hit by a box truck in a stopped queue.

Neil.
