1992 Volvo 245 Ran Fine, Died, Won't Start Again, No Error Codes

Mine is the late style, no vacuum line. It's the same one used on most Porsche and Saab of the same time period.

Find a used one with the same part number and try it.
I think repaired units may be available from XeModex.

I had this problem with my 02 s60 just last week. It would die completely then few minutes later restarted. Turned out my battery was low which is kinda weird but anyway. I fixed what was draining my battery and it hasn’t done it since. Maybe it’s battery related for you too? Or maybe alternator?
Volvolugnut, I picked up a new German made unit and so far it's working great. Thanks for all the help.
Hailstorm, thanks for the idea. My battery is only 2 years old and I have a steady 12.6vdc. It turns the engine over very strongly. I hope I have the problem solved with the ignition amplifier. Thanks.

I thought my problem was solved with the ignition amplifier. It has been fine for 3 weeks of daily driving, but I just had the problem again.
I drove it 30 minutes and it was fine. 5 minutes later it won't start again, no spark. I let it sit all day and now it starts again.
The sparkplugs, plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, have less than 10k miles. The ignition amplifier is new.
Could it be the coil? It's original to the car.
Could it be the distributor or ignition module on the firewall under the glove box? Both are original to the car.
Any help would be great! Thanks.

Two thoughts.
Volvo 240s are not as sensitive to battery voltage as later generation Volvos. If they crank and all else is ok, they will run.
Yes, an original coil can fail, generally when they get hot. I have replaced old, failing coils on my 240s. Check for spark immediately after a no start or stall condition.

On Friday when it didn't start, I didn't have a meter with me to check voltage, but I checked for spark with another sparkplug and had none. I had a digital thermometer and the coil was 40F degrees above ambient temperature in the engine compartment. That seems high, like it is failing, arcing or shorting inside? There are a lot of miles on it.

I would find a Bosch coil and swap.
