Do you have any knowledge if removing this system would require a re-tune on the ECU? My car had that originally but sadly the solenoid is missing and I would like to remove it (for some performance gains).

My plan is to change the intake manifold with one that doesn't have that system.

The formal answer is yes. The ecu is programmed to include the variable intake length, similar to how VTEC Ecu programming in mid 90's Hondas is different than Non-Vtec motors.

In the backyard mechanic, drinking homemade whiskey corner that I live in, the answer is: I wouldn't worry about it. Replace the intake with the new one and (provided that the intake ports match) you should be good to go.

As I'm sure i mentioned I locked my flaps into the "high rev" area and it worked just fine for many years.

Thanks for the words of reassurance. I will change the manifold and report back if I feel anything.

Nice to hear from you! I forgot you were in St Louis area, I dashed in on business a few months ago and picked up a nice red XC90 to replace Eugene, our old BMW

Looking at that diagram and explanation of the engine mounts, what would be the most likely cause of feeling vibration when at idle in drive or reverse with foot on the brake? 2000 S70 with 100k miles. Upper torque mount and rear hydraulic mount replaced. End mount "seems" ok.
