I think I posted pictures recently of how my fight with the eccentric bolts went. Ended up just shearing the bolt off after a few hours of fighting and getting it red hot.abscate wrote: ↑16 Apr 2025, 03:20Ugh. Still want to know the difference between AWD and XC stays. My life won’t be complete not knowing this.wizechatmgr wrote: ↑15 Apr 2025, 17:05 Went to replace panhard/stay on rear of '99 XC today. Found additional damage such as a sway bar mount being destroyed. Hit everything with Fluidfilm for now, will be back under there when I return to US.

How did that eccentric bolt look? Definitely heat the nut and turn carefully to avoid breaking, they are NLA but we have spares in stock, thanks to Neil.

Spent today cleaning up the last of several fender liners I have kicking around in the garage. I saw 2 at the junkyard for a P80 98-00 S/V70 or C70 98-04. One still has the label on it and I thought the other did as well. I don't know if it was getting them home, but one ended up splitting near the front where there is a slit presumably to work the transition from the fend to the bumper. I did not recall seeing that when buying or I wouldn't have. I then found the other has a crack in the triangular front lower corner section. I then bought a 3rd last week. This was knowingly damaged as I did not want to use a good one as I planned to use the plastic for making repairs to other plastic parts. They still insisted charging me fully for it!
While in the junkyard, I noticed a P1 V50 that was a recent arrival. I help a young student pilot with his V50 T5 AWD. When he bought it the LHR fender liner was in the trunk trashed and the trim at the front that it attaches to was missing. That piece is a silly design which looks like you have to pull the whole rocker cover to remove it after removing the fender liners first! The owner had pulled on and left if for me but when I looked at it and the current fender liner I realized its mount was almost fully torn off from it's 5 contact points to the panel.
So that has been repaired as well as a spare the junkyard didn't charge me for which was partly broken but only 2 of the mounts. So we have 2. The P80 sacrificial liner was going to be used to repair the 2 broken mounts on the P1 fender liner, one which is a complex 'F' shape.
I was not looking forward to that repair, but then the one in the junkyard almost looked new! I pulled it and the P1 owner is thrilled! Once his studies are finished in the next week or so we will tackle the fender and rocker trim repairs as well as fitting the 2 rear shocks and upper mounts that have been in my garage for nearly a year!!
I'm waiting for Aliexpress parts I ordered to repair the wiring harnesses on 2 headlights. Typically the parts I need most seem to be taking longer than originally advised and now not forecast until mid-May!
I was speaking to the 02 XC70 owner who has just finished his final exams at University and he wants to get back to the suspension repairs on his car (box has been on my workbench for 4 months!) as well as finally assessing the damage caused by an errant deer landing on the front RH corner of the hood. The hood is bent and the bumper cover broken in 2 places. I haven't had the opportunity to look under there to see if anything else is broken. TBA
Brake fluid arrived today, typical excellent handling by shipper, all 6 cans are dented significantly, fortunately none were leaking. I would make a fuss of it, but as I will be using them all in the next month then I will let it be.
Neil.

Bought 2 OEM air intake hoses for my 98's. One for a spare, and one for the new engine. Price was not bad compared to ordering from rock auto.

Scored '98 spoiler from junkyard. My little saw for cutting away the tape broke. Used wire from other cars to saw through it. Took two hours! Sadly someone already got the brackets.

Check with Robert, he usually has a couple sets with him. I think he's in Chicago at the moment, but can ship on the road.
His cell number is on his website and in the 'more' part of the videos.

There is a company out there that is selling new rear spoiler mounts for both wagons and sedans. If you have no luck locally, let me know as I have a few sedan sets.

Well the R adopted the normal position over the last couple of days:
In it's defense, this was so that I could catch up on some fluid maintenance and swap on the new summer Conti's. These I went down a size in width to see if it will stop the inner fender rubbing that started after the dealer changed the sub-frame bushes. So now going to run 215/45/17 v's 225/45/17".
I bought a new version of brake fluid to try that supercedes Dot3,4 and 5.1. It has less compressibility and higher boiling point but also a reduced moisture absorption. It will be interesting to see if the slightly soft brake pedal is removed:
https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.ph ... 89&jsn=621
I have only used my new to me brake fluid pressure bleeder. I have only used it once before but with not a great success. I got some advice from my ex-Volvo mechanic buddy on using it and with his help it was a much greater success this time around.
I first used my turkey baster and sucked all the old fluid out the reservoir, then refilled it (approx. 250 ml). I then added the remaining fluid and about the same again from a second 1 liter can. What I have learned is I can't estimate how much fluid I have flushed through the system. It turns out in total it was only 1 liter I actually used. In future I will mark my drain bottle with levels so I get a better idea.
I discovered, after someone mentioned this tool, that my dim memory was correct and I have one as well. I tried it on both out Volvos and it said both had <1% of moisture which means it was ok. However, based on time and you are only measuring the reservoir contents I decided to swap it anyway. Next time I am going to aim at the 1.5-2 liter with more being used on the rear Right brake as it is the longest pipe run.
Fortunately the brake bleeders worked ok, but next time I may swap them as I think they may be partially blocked and aging with rust.
I drained and filled the steering reservoir (approx. 600-650 ml) with fresh CHF 202 Pentosin fluid. I thought I had done a drain and fill last year but was mistaken! Glad I did as the fluid was black/brown. Way past due!
Decided to pass on the engine oil and filter swap until the fall based on comments in another thread where I asked about is I should or not swap it. I'll swap them in the fall when the car is hibernated.
Final thing was to drain and fill the coolant based on age. The Nissans drain plug release so pulled the bottom hose. The drain has no clear open/closed position so I hope I have left in in the closed position! I stupidly did not record this as I thought like the Volvo radiator drains it unscrewed. I am not sure how this comes out but did not want to force it!
I only drained the radiator and the system but did not drain the block. We have really hard water here so running a hose is not an option so I ran a gallon of distilled water through before reconnecting the hose and topping back up with 50/50 Volvo coolant and distilled water.
I had forgotten to re-insure the car for the road so will have to wait a couple of days for cover before taking it for a run and before handing the keys over to the 'boss' for her summer driving!
