Tariffs and car markets

Post by abscate »

New car sales in US, 16 M units

Used car sales 30M units ? Fact check.

What will be the impact of tariffs on used car pricing ? Are we headed for this again??

I believe that used car prices will inevitably go up at least short term. Tariffs and fear of not being able to buy a car is one side of the coin, the other and more serious is the MSRP of the new cars which increased in some cases 30-40% in comparison to 2020(CarEdge done multiple videos on such). With everything priced so high and no cheap entry level cars(Saturn, or even your fiesta, focus, cobalt) people are forced to go to used market. Even if the domestic brands will decide to take their heads from the places where sun is not shinning and decide to bring back affordable cars, it will take probably 2 years to put them on the lots.

I guess that suggestion is better applied to Toyota or Honda owners. IMHO older volvo takes most of the times more money and work to keep on a road than yearly payment for average civic or corolla. The only thing that works for volvo owners in the north east is the better quality metal which not rusts as fast.

Lack of rust has been huge for me, running 25 year old cars while my neighbors’ US and Asian cars rust out around me

On a whim,I ran the same search I ran when I bought my xc90 used last month , and the prices are up about 9%

Lanolin based(aka Krown) undercoating spray seems to be a decent product to help with rust. I be dammed to use Ziebart undercoating ever again

Yea it'll be a lot like 2020 where values go up, parts costs go up. New car sales go down, putting pressure on the used market (values up). More owners choose to keep what they have, repair it, defer new car buys.

MVS traffic goes up 100x, I create the MVS crypto coin, give each of you 100k of them, the value of the coin goes up to bitcoin levels, we all end up with $100B wealth and buy Australia and turn it into the world's largest Volvo-only racetrack.

The straightaway and paddock area will be 2000 miles.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link
. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!

Wait, I thought your already suggested to POTUS to buy Greenland. I just got exited about no snakes and plenty of ice to drift.

Ok how about this: if our scouting parties encounter people in Australia, we forget that and buy Greenland. We'll be so drunk on money we won't really know where we are anyway.

Hilarious!! Good plans! MVS Crypto coin!

Myself, I've just ordered a 2026 Tariff GT. Some people think it looks good on the surface, but it's slow and inconsistent, and the upkeep is incredibly expensive. You could say unsustainable.
