2007 XC70 196k transmission

Post by dliscomb »

so, I bought a 2007 XC70 with 196k.
And paid too much for it.

Test drive (all of, maybe,, 30 minutes) seemed to be fine.
Drove it May 4 and had an awful shift problem at low speed that felt like I had been rear-ended.

Today's ~1.5 hours reading here at MVS leads me to believe that a transmission fluid replacement is the first remedy attempt. I was planning to take it to the seller/garage for that service tomorrow.

Kind regards,
Drew

.
Just a drain and fill or a flush? There are two schools of thought on how to flush, meaning complete replacement of the fluid in the transmission. What kind of fluid will this shop be using?

when I know either answer, I'll reply. This is not a "Volvo Shop", so I'll probably be lucky to get ATF, and not something else.

Take your own Volvo fluid or 3309 with Lubeguard. It matters.

Thank you everyone for the support.

Whatever the jokers did, the shift problem has not returned. Since I am now past my 30-day warrantee, I'll replace the atf myself now, after I purchase a new jack.

After that: fix the A/C.

Kind regards,
Drew

One year on, and I have not had the transmission problem again.

Thanks again to everyone!

It wouldn't surprise me if A LOT of these are prematurely junked due to the transmissions. And it's impressive how effective the repeated transmission drain+fill works. If only this was prescribed at 100k, 120k, or 150k, we'd probably see a ton more P2s on the road.

Earlier in this thread you said, "This is not a "Volvo Shop", so I'll probably be lucky to get ATF, and not something else."

THAT made me shudder. I'm glad you got satisfaction.

And yes, your experience and zillions of other cases of neglect has hastened too many vehicles to the junk yards.
