Help on a 2014 V70 135 "SRS Airbag Service Urgent"

Post by bumbumtschak »

Hi folks,
My V70 shows the message "SRS Airbag Service Urgent" shortly after starting with the red airbag lamp.
Also If I take of my seatbelt during the drive it doesn't beep, the passenger seat also doesn't beep.
The car recognized the passengers seated because of the icons display.
I took of the battery for an hour and took the cable from the SRS Module out.
I've erasre all errors but some are coming back.
I've checked the fuses under the glovebox and next to the battery which are easy to check.

I've read a ton of different articles about this problem but I can't find an answer.
I'm new into the DIY self diagnose mechanic stuff so please be patient.
I've sucessfully installed VIDA2014 after a lot of trial and errors and these are the pictures from my car. Always DIM, PBM or CEM U015100
Even tried iCarsoft VOL 1 but nothing changed.
What should I do next? Do I need to visit my dealership and burn some cash?
btw this happend on the way back after getting my TÜV (OSHA/ MoT)

thanks a lot
Rob

That data looks like you have a cut network wire or a loose connector. Download a copy of the Volvo EWD Electrical Wiring Diagram book for your car and read the explanation pages for how to use the book. Then start looking at the modules with the error codes in the book, the wiring harness codes, ground locations, and electrical connection locations. The cross reference pictures in the back of the book along with the different codes used make the work much easier compared to simply tearing the entire interior out to find a broken wire. Lots of patience will be needed...

Hi. How confident you are in your abilities? I dont want to shy you away from this project, but if you need this car on the road asap, i would rather suggest to go to the dealer. Agree with DavidE7 that your issue is due to srs module. It can be as simple as blown fuse, broken ground wire, broken communication wire or module itself. You will need to locate the module(usually somewhere between front seats). Find correct electric diagram for your car. Put cars battery on charger. Than identify connector to the module. Now disconnect battery and remove connector. Inspect for corrosion(coffee, soda, water at times can get to them if located next to cup holder). Then you will need to reconnect battery and with test light(2amp should be ok) test all powers and grounds to the module(simple voltmeter will not be ok). If they are checking ok, I would stop there and bring to dealer unless you want to buy oscilloscope to check signal on communication wires. Be careful with wires that go to airbags since you possibly can activate airbag with small current via voltmeter test and it will become even more expensive.

I don't see any srs codes.

check the seatbelt harness plugs.
MOT inspections are aggressive, did they fold the rear seats down or pull on the seatbelts?

plug all the seatbelt in, front and rear.

An LED computer safe test probe helps, mine is limited to 15ma.

Thank you for the replies, in fact I didn't believe someone would reply that fast :) I like this forum after all!
I'm not that confident with disassembling my V70 because I can't find good walkthroughs.

The MOT inspection hasn't folding them down, I use a seat cushion behind my lower back and a gap cushion but I took those out for the inspection.

Maybe this was too hard on the cables for the seatbelt holder.
ChatGPT is actually my help and it's telling me I should check those after taking out the battery. Where are those cables located? How can I find a disassembly guide for the seatbelt holder?
If I go to my dealership, I need to make an appointment in at least 2 months from now and at least 300€+.
I worked electrical stuff on different cars and have installed Vida by myself :)

Normally I change car fluids by myself, sometimes if anything else needs to be done I'm giving it to a workshop not to my dealership, since it much cheaper here in Germany.
And I use this car as my daily driver.
Regards
Rob

It shows multiple codes for "lost communication with srs module" that's why me and David E7 were leaning into checking that module first.

I think in Vida there should be information about how to locate the module(still think it will be below arm rest of the front seats). Find electrical diagram and check if the connector wires correspond to your diagram(colors, numbers). Then check the powers and grounds with load(through 2amp bulb, this way you will assure wire is capable to carry current and not just voltage). Make sure you are using tiny needle probes when front probing. You can easily spread pins with big leads.

do I need to unscrew the seat too? I found the explosion drawing of the seatframe and the front belt in VIDA. I'll try my luck :D
