New scanner

Post by ljsommar1 »

Does anyone have any experience with the Foxwell VT710 loaded with Volvo software. It comes with free software updates for life. This is supposedly dedicated toward Volvo. I have a 2002 V70 and a 2020 V60, my VIDA system does not work on the newer car. I have an Autel unit for that but I did not realize it was a boat anchor after the free software period expired. It requires an annual subscription to function at all.
Any experience/opinions?

I am currently leaning towards Thinkcar. It looks more capable and covers way more cars(since maybe tomorrow you will buy Toyota crown wagon etc...)it likely will be $200 more but looks more capable. Also Topdon is offering 15% for father's day now. If you can wait, "Amazon days" offer the best prices usually.

The thinkcar I used could not for the love of god connect to a B5244SG/SG2 engine. Worked fine on other vehicles, but Denso Bifuel? No way.

I just looked at that scanner, while not prohibitively expensive, it is more than I want to spend. I do occasionally service other friends and family member cars, so you’re right, it would be nice for that, but as for me, I am pretty invested in Volvo.
From what I have read the Foxwell NT710 (with Volvo software) is very capable. Has anyone heard different?

I run a 510 elite for volvo, acura, honda, hyundai, mazda, and toyota. Well its not the nicest scanner, it is small and got the main purpose done. Has paid for itself many times over with scanning.

Anyways, the foxwell group is actually pretty good with customer feedback. Backup your sd card every update. Sometimes they release a broken update and it is not possible to roll back. Had this happen with honda software. The free updates for life is something that is mostly useful.

I do notice some parameters are not correct. I tried to live data an 02 v70 the other day and the misfire counter reported 6 cylinders on a 5 cylinder. Some interpolation got you the right mapping, but it is not perfect.

I bought my scanner in 2022 and the updates are mostly good. Check out xtool as well. I think that works post subscription but will not work on vehicles made after that update.

Foxwell makes sense if you really only service a few makes. The other scanners work if you have a much wider breadth of makes.

.
Friend purchased a 2006 Sienna with ABS light on a week ago. He purchased the Autel 619 through my recommendation.

Worked on diagnosing the ABS and also turned off the SRS on our 02 V70 XC but it came back as I believe the driver’s seat belt buckle is defective.

I found the best generic OBDII 2 software is the Carscanner and it works with even the cheap generic $15 Amazon dongles. The Carscanner Pro I’m sure has more features.
.
Blessings,
