1997 V90 hesitates at acceleration after a complete stop
1997 V90 hesitates at acceleration after a complete stop
I bought a 1997 V90 a month or so ago with 158,000 miles on it. It ran great initially until the fuel tank go low and the light came on. I filled it up (might have been poor gas) and then it started to hesitate and make a grinding type noise when I accelerate from a stop, but then it corrects itself and runs great at regular and high speeds. but this problem is intermittent and does not do it every time. I took it to a mechanic and he replaced the battery cable. It didn't fix the problem. another mechanic changed the spark plugs, still doing it. I dropped the fuel tank and replaced the fuel pump, still doing it. Any suggestions? I am afraid to take it on any long road trips because I don't know if this problem will eventually hurt my engine in the long run. I am in a rural area and parts are hard to find. Thanks everyone. Jim I also wanted to say that the fuel pressure seems to be ok. And during this "partial stalling" the engine makes a rapid clicking sound. When this happens though, the rpm's jump around up and down. Help

Jim,
I'm sorry but I don't have an answer for you. I'm moving your thread over to the RWD (V90) section as you've posted in the FWD V70 section. I know you would like some help with your problem. I hope you get it here. Maybe a better description of the sound would help. Also, have you tried reading your trouble codes from the computer (OBD-II socket)?

You might have sucked up some crud and run it into the fuel injectors. I'd try a can of Chevron Techron Fuel System Cleaner in it. It's about $7. Just add it to your gas tank and drive.

I would agree with that but if it does not work you may have to have the injectors cleaned by a specialist.

I took the car to a mechanic who changed the spark plugs, didn't fix the problem, then I took it to a dealer (two hour drive each way) and he said it was the MAF, I had already cleaned the MAF sensor and replaced it but it didn't fix the problem, but I went ahead and bought a new MAF and installed it, it didn't fix the problem. I have already replaced fuel pump, fuel filter. and the spark plugs ( replaced again because mechanic installed wrong plugs) and replaced spark plug wires, still the problem seems to be getting worse. I added a can of injector cleaner but that didn't help either. Please, someone has got to have other ideas. I do not have a check engine light on and I wonder if someone knows how to check the injectors without just having them replaced. I appreciate any and all suggestions. Thanks.

The only DIY test for injectors that I know is to measure their resistance with an ohmmeter or multimeter.
Ignition Off.
Disconnect the fuel injector connector.
With the injector temperature at about 68F (20C), measure the resistance between the injector terminals. It should be 15.6 - 16.2 ohms.
If outside those readings replace the injector.
This does not, however, check the spray pattern of the injector which can only be done with the correct equipment.

the equivalent of the carb acclerator pump on your car is the fuel pressure regulator. before you spend any more money put a fuel gage on it and see if your fuel pressure regulator is working correctly. Pressure should vary as you apply vacuum to it. It sounds like it is sticking.
