Put Me in the no sympathy for the big Three club as well, I grew up hating the cars I had to ride in. They were 70s 80s boats. I was an entranced by the nimble, lightweight high revving Japanese machines. I believe that also affected my dismal view of pushrods.

It’s kind of funny for me to think back to my wife’s driving experience. In HS she got a summer job at a bank. They were 4 miles from town in the mountains and she needed to drive.
A neighbor helped her out and let her drive his TR4 all summer. She never even learned to put the top up!

Then she drove her parents Peugeot 504 manual diesel wagon - I had to jump that thing several times in cold weather. Then she drove my Fiat 124 Spider. Then we bought a Scirocco together. Then another Fiat 124, then my Alfa Romeo Spider. Then a Volvo wagon (245 turbo!). Then a manual Audi wagon, another 850 T5 wagon, and now the XC.
She sort of missed the boring car phase.

Nope - A4 Avant 1.8T. Fun to drive, unstoppable in the snow with good tires, incredibly complicated mechanically and packaging of systems - I got tired of working on it.

My wife had a 1999 Audi A4 2.6 quattro sedan. I used to joke that we had to find a cheaper car wash as every visit cost at least $1000 in the early noughties. Fabulous car in snow and ice.

I did a top end on one of those no book never did one before. Boy Did I re put that thing together a lot of times. The layers of tubes and wires and brackets and hoses that have to go on in a certain sequence not to mention hey let’s use every type of fastener in existence.

The water pump failed and it was driven till it wouldn’t drive anymore, shredded the timing belt bent all eight exhaust valves. It was a mess. But after the repair and 120mph test drive I never saw it again.

I hear you! Mine had 130k, regular oil changes, topped up, took a long trip and on the Montana Wyoming border it blew up with no warning. Spun the rod bearings. Maybe 1st owner had coked up oil galleries because of stupid long intervals, or because it only held 3 1/2 quarts and everything was next to the turbo??

I found a good used long block and swapped it out. Never trusted it after that.

3.5 quarts is a small amount of oil. I've owned pull-start mowers that approached that. Not really, but... 3.5? Holy smokes man.
