I have a 2000 S80 2.9L Non-Turbo with 275k miles on it.
I'm replacing the engine. I need to remove the ECU modules. The VARDIS manual says I need a special tool.
Has anyone been able to figure out how to remove these modules without the tool?
Thanks,
Dave

Welcome to MVS. I'll look for it but seems that there is a way. I know that www.ipdusa.com will rent it to you...if all else fails, contact Scott or Lucky at IPD.

According to Haynes you can release it with a homemade tool. Take a thin strip of steel 23mm wide and cut a 7mm wide slot 13mm deep into the end. Fasten a 5mm pop rivet (to act as a pivot) in the center of the strip 40mm from the slotted end. Insert the tool alongside the ECM and slide the pink catches forwards alternately a little at a time. The ECM will rise and detach from the connectors. Do not touch the control module terminal pins with bare hands - static electricity may cause damage.
