I have re-used many times. Don't recall ever using Loctite, but for piece of mind you could use a little blue Loctite. Warning is that they are hard to undo in the first place, so adding thread locker may make it really hard in the future should you have to remove the prop-shaft again.

Hope this helps. It states, tighten opposite bolts to 8Nm. Then tighten opposites again to 30Nm.

One time use. New ones come with new loctite pre applied. I’ve re-used them, but it’s not advisable because they a) like to strip if reused too much and b) should be replaced, as the hardware stretches when installed. It is a 2 stage tightening procedure - I believe 8 nm on the first pass, then 30 on the second, in a star pattern so it seats properly.

You guys/gals are going to get tired of all of my questions lol. I would like to replace the front and rear brakes, rotors and front soft brake lines. What do you recommend? The brakes currently work but rear brakes are thin and I would rather not risk failure of the soft lines on the road and start fresh with something as important as brakes. I see some "kits" on tcp but wanted to pick your brains for go to parts before diving in. TIA

The rear is buttoned up as much as I can and have parts for. Based on your recommendations I am going to order new driveshaft bolts and a few odds and ends, including brakes, and revisit a couple of things int hat area when I get my down pipe in. Now it is back on all four wheels and ready for some clean up work inside and out. Once I get the cleanup done I am going to pull it back on the lift and do the timing belt, wp, tensioners/pulleys and associated parts, pcv system, preemptively change the radiator, all cooling/vacuum lines, thermostat, heater core, etc. I ordered a new water temp sensor and 02 sensors since they were cut with the cat theft. Anything else you would recommend while I am up there and have so much off the engine?

ATE, Genuine Volvo, or Textar pads only. The ceramic options suck - they barely stop the car, so make sure whatever you buy is semi-metallic. Zimmerman is good for rotors, as is Genuine obviously.

Techna-Fit stainless lines or ATE rubber are both good - they’re specific to 302mm so make sure you get that variant. You should have the 302mm front rotors from the factory. If for some reason you do not, get the brackets and do that upgrade - they’re so much better than the 280mm that came standard on everything but the R.

There were 3 different rear brake setups for P80 V70R - you should have the late 98-99 variant, so double check fitment info on the rear pads/rotors before you order stuff.

Get the DO88 heater hose upgrade - it’s the best heater hose kit out there. Genuine is well over double the $ and aren’t made perfectly. Also replace that heater hose junction piece in the firewall when you do it - it likes to crack when removing the hoses, and you don’t know until you fire it up and there’s a puddle of coolant under the car.

Go Aisin for the water pump and make sure to get new bolts. Continental or Genuine Volvo are both good for the belt. INA is what you want for the tensioner and idler. Get a new tensioner bolt as well.

Nissens or Genuine for the radiator. DO88 or Genuine for the radiator hoses - Rein is acceptable but not as good.

PCV, you have two options that are good. Either get Genuine Volvo everything (box, all hoses, crossover pipe, etc etc), or get the Vast catch can and Genuine for the remainder. Make sure to get the updated banjo bolt. No aftermarket option is worth buying - Genuine for everything, except for what’s included in the Vast catch can kit if you end up going that route.

That list is looking solid for the most part. I’m wary of that aftermarket unbranded VVT hub seal.

Also, you’re going to want the big crossover pipe for the PCV, and many crush washers for the banjo bolt (2 you actually need, and an extra few for the ones you inevitably drop haha). The vacuum hose on it always snaps upon removal no matter how gentle you are, and they clog up with junk over time. You can replace that big crossover with the Vast catch can instead if you desire

Like all thinks on cars, there are different opinions. I have reused the prop-shaft bolts multiple times with no issues. The one thing I check is the hex head is not damaged. If it is I do not re-use them. These bolts are not torque to yield. The first torque is to seat the flange square. 2nd is to torque it.

I have used Brembo rotors where available with Akebono pads with no issues on my 00 V70R and our 06 XC70 without any issues. In fact in both cases they have been better than the OE rotors, especially on the XC70. Zimmerman rotors I like too when you get the coated ones. I have had a couple of issues with them warping out the box.

Check the parking brake cables are working as they like to swell internally and brake where they bolt to the rear suspension.

I am wary on Rein parts, as the rubber is not great, but today some of the PCV parts are getting hard to find and OE are stupid expensive.

You are doing a great job! I am enjoying seeing the progress.

Neil.

If you are going VOLVO OEM I would buy them today.

OEM are made by Rotunds in India, and they have a 50% tariff target on their back this week.

VIDA says to replace the propshaft bolts every time, I presume because of the pre-applied loctite. When my ‘98 was still AWD, I replaced the bolts every other because of the heads wanting to strip if re-used more than once.

I’ve had one set of Zimmerman warp on me shortly after install, but they’ve otherwise been solid for me.

Heavily disagree on the Akebono pads - everyone I know calls them Ake-nono because they hardly have any bite and have downright dangerous stopping distances both cold and once they have more than one stop worth of heat in them. I hated the set I had on my XC70 so much I warrantied them (FCP) probably 2 weeks into having them installed after almost read-ending someone that cut me off because the brakes were so bad.

Agreed on the parking brake cables - I have some good used AWD ones if OP needs a set.

Yeah, not a fan of Rein generally. The two specific pieces included in that kit have been good for me so far though. Their PcV hose from the top of the head to the flame trap is complete garbage - made the mistake of getting one of those and it fell apart no more than a week after installing it.
