Wow, DSMO. Though I've never used it, it was popular back in the day for pain relief and probably still today. It's a solvent per 7:30 of the video and very permeable to the skin.

Yeah, work in gloves, wear protective eyewear and maybe use a respirator. DMSO itself is not toxic, but it's an agent that penetrates into tissues easily and carries anything along with it.

The rest I've tried to clean the engine's internal cooked surfaces with only worked well when nearly boiling. I've got a similar dissolving effect from Simple Green ~1:1 solution when it was heated to 150 F, and on top of that I've used a compressed air for agitation. And it took forever.
Contrary, DMSO just needs to be liquid, applied topically :)

You want butyl rubber or fluoroelastomer gloves with DMSO, it will permeate nitrile gloves.
