ABS problem with our v70 XC

Post by karllykkemark »

HEY!
We have a problem with our Volvo V70 XC from 1999.

It drives fantastic, no faults on the ABS system, but out of nowhere it goes into ABS when braking.
Live data shows “--” on all sensors and not just “0”. If you brake all the way down and then accelerate again, it works perfectly and reads correctly on all sensors, and then after a bit it can happen again.

What could it be?

Probably there is rust on the tone rings on one or more of the axles. These are the metal rings with slots that give the abs sensor the signal of wheel speed. Depending on the axle type you have on your car, some can be replaced and some are an integral part of the axle.

The ABS control unit onthe car can also fault, in the States we use Midwest ABS to repair these for about $100
