Put the winter tires on for the season. While i had the wheel off, I replaced the gearbox oil as I had bought some oil a few months prior from Volvo. Filled it using a funnel and some plastic hose. The M56 took exactly 2L. Shifts as good as ever :D.

Noticed the cv boots look to be on their way out. So add that to the top of the list.

Also had a look at the heated seats as the driver seat has not worked as long as i have had the car. Thankfully it was only a broken wire to the thermostat, as is common. Resoldered and looking forward to a toasty winter :D

Started the timing belt and water pump job today. Got everything disassembled until it got dark on me. Gotta clean the water pump gasket surface and put it all back together tomorrow. Replacing the serpentine belt and coolant resevoir while I'm at it. I learned that the serpentine belt tensioner is on it's way out. Yet another new part to add to the list. The timing belt looks surprisingly decent for being from 2009... Also the water pump appears to be original, it has 182k miles on it and hasn't leaked a drop, still feels tight too. Impressive

The water pump change interval jumped magically to 210k miles in 1999-

The OE ones do last a long time

Today I took Elizabeth for a good 65 mph spin on the LIE - thanks to Robert Spinner she is back on the road with a new clutch line

She has weathered the 2 year mothballing well, brakes need a bleed but I’ve got a fresh set of stuff if needed

Found some atp sealant that was a little bit cheaper than the other one that I found online. I’ll using it with the next oil change.

Next up I replaced the exhaust for a ferrita cat back sports exhaust. I installed it from front to back and had issues getting the ball joint to seal. Took me three tries to not get it leak.

But it’s droning a lot around 2k rpm. So much it hurts my ears.
I’ll have to reseat the rear muffler and tailpipe and make it stick a bit more outwards of the bumper.

If that doesn’t work, then maybe reseat the whole cat back and install it from back to front if that makes a difference.

Also, the cat back came with a round tailpipe. I want to order an oval tailpipe. It suits the cutout of the bumper much more that the round one.

Funny to say it, but the old exhaust sounds much better. I could hear the 5 cilinders much better than the sports exhaust.

Gave it a wash and now I don't want to drive it and make it instantly dirty again.

Near the right rear fender is the last bit of rust too that'll need welding, but I'm gonna just convert the rust and put some paint over it and do that next summer.

Think the car could be lowered in the front too. I did that on my Saab 900 T16 last year, just in the front and it turned out real nice. This has the same look with the wheel gaps in the front being larger.

Does anyone know if the pipes have to be pushed all the way to the end of the connecting pipe?

Otherwise it seems that the exhaust is too short for the estate, because the tailpipe is very inwards of the bumper.

That is going to melt that plastic Bumper Chieber - I would steal a cm or two at each joint and add exhuast putty on each joint to keep them in place. If you 2 cm overlap that should work ok.

That moose trailer hitch cap is fantastic!!!

Hello Chieber, I had a similar problem, mine was also too short.

Can you find an extension or make one? I had to go up one size on the pipe, so I found an adapter that worked.

Thanks abscate. I’ll pull the tailpipe as far out as I can first.
I don’t want to deal with the exhaust hanger rubbers for the foreseeable future haha.

Looking for a longer oval shaped tail pipe now.

The moose hitch cap was a necessary part of improving Volvos aerodynamica. :D

There’s a oval tailpipe from Simon’s that seems to be 23cm long. This one is only 18cm. So without messing with the exhaust again, I think I’ll try the longer tailpipe first.

How is the sound of your exhaust? I’m kind of disappointed in the ferrita cat back.
With the oem exhaust I had this nice 5 cilinder sound in the cabin.

Now it’s too much bass and droney around 2krpm.
