Water in sunshade

Post by 99TurboBrick »

Hello! I just purchased a 2006 XC90. Of course the sunroof leaks!

The two A pillar drains are functioning normally. However, water is collecting in the sunshade.

Question: is the sunshade designed such that the water drains out of it and into the sunroof channels and hence out of the vehicle?

I do not detect any moisture anywhere else; nothing in the headliner, etc.

I do see some of the fabric of the sunshade peeling off at the front edge, my guess is due to the moisture.

Also, I'll add that the shade is off track. It wouldn't surprise me if the water deteriorated some of the components, and they are probably damaged.

Any insights or advice is appreciated!

Maybe need to adjust the sunroof. Here's a calibration post here- viewtopic.php?t=44603 , I do this upon occasion. Adjustment itself is here:

,you should calibrate after you're completed for a final visual check on the adjustment.

And now the moon roof is stuck in the open tilted position. I've tried multiple times to close it, and now suddenly the battery is dead, the vehicle won't start, and there's a check engine light. That's gotta be one helluva weak battery to drain in just a few minutes of pushing a sunroof close button.

I'll address the battery situation, then look into the calibration info. Thanks!

There are different size batteries that fit in the tray and under the cover without modification. The smaller stock battery is terrible for even using the radio in ACC position. Get the largest AGM battery that fits. On my '09 XC90 it's H7, on my'14 XC90 it's H8. I've read that Walmart does a straight replacement within warranty, where most sellers like Costco give a pro-rated credit.

Amen to that! That's why I got this 60lb tank of a battery:

Odyssey Performance Group Size 49 Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) Battery ODP-AGM49H8L5

The vehicle starts so quickly upon turning the key, it's remarkable.

And with that, the sunroof now closes! Now to diagnose the leak. Chatgpt says there are 4 drain holes, but everywhere where else I've heard of only 2 drains. So that's interesting.

4 drains is correct. In addition to the hoses in the "A" pillars, there are hoses that run down the "C" pillars to an area at the front of the rear wheel wells. They have the same purse-lip 90° drain fitting https://www.volvopartswebstore.com/show ... evel=24666.

Also check for windshield leaks as at this age it is possible for leaks along the top edge.
