I got a 1997 850 R today

Help, Advice and DIY Tutorials on Volvo's P80 platform cars -- Volvo's 1990s "bread and butter" cars -- powered by the ubiquitous and durable Volvo inline 5-cylinder engine.

I had noticed this half of salary car price relationship in the 70's and 80's. At that time I wondered how anyone justified buying a new car. Then there was a public comment by the CEO of Ford about 1990 - he did not care if most people could not afford his new cars.

The car companies figured out how to rent them to people instead. Im amazed at the number of people who own their homes, and lease their cars - invariably cars they shouldnt be leasing.

What about all the "Leasing Makes Sense In Some Cases" stories? I don't recall ever reading one to find out why it makes sense in some cases.

THose are written by banks.... :D

If you want to drive a late model car no more than 2-3 years old then a lease 'makes sense' but thats such a poor financial choice its like choosing between cyanide and hemlock for your soup.

Me too! Unfortunately the dash pad has the dreaded buckle. Overall the car looks very nice though besides the usual signs of usage. Nice Vredestein tires too.
