Front Seat Bolt Cover Removal V70, 2004

Gang -

One of these days I'll try to fix the driver's seat heating issue. The first obstacle is removing the plastic covers that cover the front bolts that attach the seat to the tracks. Breaking them would be a bad way to start. The tips I've seen all seem to relate to a cover that looks different than mine.

The replacements I see on the IPD website (9199829) don't have the little hump that goes over the main screw mechanism inside the track.

Any tips on removal would be appreciated. Thanks!

I think the plastic piece slides forward.

IPD suggested that the correct part # is 39975895

I think they are correct from the image I found:

I will take @CN90's suggestion and try to slide it forward again). It sure feels tight.

The part is not longer available so I really don't want to break it.

When in doubt, check eBay used stuffs.
Searching eBay for the PN, found the photo!
So pry the front part of the cover upward....

Thanks, cn90 ! I actually did search eBay for the part # earlier but no luck. Not sure what I was doing wrong. That sure looks like the part and prying from the front should do it. I may wait for a warmer day just so the plasic isn't quite so brittle.

I little bit of down ward pressure against the carpet helps remove these, I think maybe use the eBay pictures to visualize the connectors /

Exactly what I would do. Or heat it gradually, not with a torch or heat gun but by blasting heater to floor for 20 minutes while I drive, windows down. Or even a "Bed Buddy" https://amzn.to/4pFyOGn - don't laugh, I use mine to heat ink to print MVS t-shirts because my rig is in the cold basement.

SUCCESS - well, so far.

I started with left cover of driver's seat. I pushed down on the carpet at the front of the cover which provided a little room. I put a medium sized flat blade screwdriver in under the cover from the front (left of center) and pried & prayed and it popped off. When I do the other one i will probably use two screwdrivers to equalize the pressure.

I wanted to document how to remove the bolts covers from the rear of the front seats. It's not rocket science but getting those covers off is normally the first thing one does when removing the seat and starting off by breaking them is a difficult way to begin.

The rear plastic covers are a press fit onto a metal bracket which angles back and up at a 45* angle. So pulling back and up is how to do it. I used the curved end of a Wonder Bar® to accomplish this. It has the added benefit of distributing the force over a wide area which may help to keep the cover in tact.

The next picture shows the bracket over which a rectangular box fits. The pencil is used to push down the carpet in order to see more of this metal bracket. The small white area on the bracket is the flash reflection of a little 'bump' which ends up helping to hold the cover in place after the cover slides onto this bracket.

The next picture shows the underside of the cover with the molded rectangular slot that fits over the metal bracket and snaps into place.
