volvo v70 2.4t 2001 VVT timing

Post by Ajappinen »

Hello, i have serious conserns for my engine!

I changed the timing belt abt 6 months ago and possibly did it wrong. The engine is B5244 T3, it has VVT in the exhaust cam. I followed these kinds of instructions but i think they were from some forum although similar: https://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticl ... 5Q90F9j4px

Now my friend bought a bit more advanced scanner and we scanned my volvo and i found these codes i linked in the documents. The most conderning in my opinion is the camshaft opening adaptation number and i am wondering can it even be right or is the reader just wrong since it is not official vida reader but still 3rd party meant for Volvo.

the car runs okay and i have not noticed a change after the replacement and it shows no engine fault lights or messages. Only problem is that about half the time while accelerating it feels like the turbo does not kick in. I suspect it is different fault caused by old turbo and not attached to this. there is also a problem of uneven idle but it is not very bad. just time to time the revs drop for a short while.

After reading some threads abt the fault codes i am afraid that the fault comes from the exhaust vvt since i did not calibrate it while changing the belt.

I would be happy if anyone could affirm that being the problem and if i have to start working again on the cams and belt. I am quite sure the teeth stayed in position they were previously and i tested the vvt solenoid outside the car and it worked. Of course there could be some wiring issues but they seem good.

Line the crank and cam marks on the TB.
If they match, then you installed the TB correctly.

Then the problem is elsewhere.

Okay so i checked the belt and when crankshaft is prperly aligned the intace cam is also properly aligned but the exhaust cam with vvt mark is at 10 o clock when it should be at 12. Is this just from the vvt working strangely. Ih have the belt on and i have not locked the cams any way

My mechanic buddy has told me there should be 18 teeth on the belt between the 2 timing marks. That is when tooth # 1 is on one of the timing marks, when you count eighteen teeth it should be on the the other one. Happy to be corrected.

Just align Exhaust VVT sprocket to 12:00, then you should be fine.
