I've heard the same thing about the clicking, but I've also heard that for sway bar links (which I'm sure are junk too). I'll have to listen and hope that I hear it only on one side and not the other.

Boot will be taped up for the winter and replaced in the spring. Do I'm right to believe everyone that anything but the GKN axles are junk? Is it worth looking to see if a junk yard has any?
GKN can be hit or miss. New GKN is OE quality. Rebuilt GKN can be bad.

You can disassemble your tripods and add a shim, so the tripods are rolling on a new untouched surface.

Or you can swap your axles to 2.5T XC90, they don't have tripods and last forever.

Those are extremely soft. Even if you break one, can drive them out with bolt extractor easily. Unlike class 10.9 bolts that Volvo likes so much.

Good to know about the XC90 axles. Are you 100% sure on that? I'd rather just buy that if thats the only difference. Still, the GKN axles are in short supply, a lot on back order. Going to reach out to people who have used the 1A Auto/TRQ branded axles. They don't sound too bad. Right now they're $210 for both front axles.

Yes, XC90 axles fit. You need a shim to position tone ring against sensor

Hello!

After 3 months, I've still yet to do major work on the Volvo (thanks, winter), and I'm at the point where I just want to pay to get it done. I'm getting mixed messaging online when it comes to clicking noises.

If I turn my wheel, hear clicking, and the axle is bad, is the location of the bad axle opposite to the direction I'm turning? Some people say it's the same side, others say it's the opposite side. Clarification would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,
Christopher

Update: I'm just gonna have them both replaced, but an answer to the above question would help many conflicting Google searches. Also, the reason I spent so much for control arms is because NAPPA was selling them for $300 a piece... sigh, my mistake for not asking. Sourcing my own this time around because they want $300 for one axle. TRQ has both for $200.
