The idle air controller is working, bench tested with the battery and made sure its clean.

Checked for vacuum leaks using a smoke tester. Found a huge gash in the hose between the turbo and intercooler. Sealing that opening with my gloved finger does nothing to the idle. I have a do88 silicone kit on order. Hopefully will be here before new years.

I pulled the spark plugs. They all look great. There are probably less than 10,000 miles on them. No cracks on the porcelin. The plug boots look new, replaced with bougicord about 8 years ago.

The distributor cap is super clean inside. Also replaced about 8 years ago with the plug wires.

I also cleaned the 2 ground wires on the back side of the valve cover.

Performed a compression test since I had the plugs out. Cylinder 1-4 are reading 150psi, cylinder 5 is at 135 psi. Maybe a valve job is in order?

My logic says if it was a bad fuel pump or low fuel pressure, the engine should perform worse at anything above idle as it would be starved for fuel. So I think the fuel pump is good.
I had the exact same results on mine except it was cylinder 3 that was low.

For what it's worth I've had idle issues that were solved by double checking the vacuum routing and fix the fuel pump control module. (The forum will call it a "relay" but using the whole name is a hill will now die on since it's more than a simple relay)

Be thankful you have the two bolt control arms. The four bolts on the xc70 and awd models are a brutal job

Finished front suspension refresh except for the tie rods.
Think I need a couple days to recover, because it took longer than I anticipated.

The right side hardware was much worse rusty than the drivers side. Had to cut off the bolt from the swaybar link. It was completely rusted.
While I was under there I saw the drain hoses from the plastic guard up on top. The hoses drain right in the wheel well.

The brake caliper seems to be missing a cap and bleeder cover as well.

I also checked the engine mounts and it looks good, so I won’t be ordering that for now.

I’m hesitant to start tackling the delta link and trailing arm bushings after I’ve done the tie rods :(

On that note, I found my socket 13! And another tool that was under the fender area. Not sure what it is.

…that engine mount looks awful to me, is that just the angle?

I've checked up codes. All codes are clear. I've picked up the battery to charge it. All levels controlled. My 850 turns as a Swiss clock...

Last night I ordered a cheap right-hand side engine mount from Zoro. I can probably get that changed the the cold, but I have no desire to do the others this time of year.

Also, the key fob is today's little project. I wish I could find a new case, like I did for the 99.

The board got sprayed with MAF cleaner and everything else got scrubbed with dish soap.

Neil.
That looks to be the whole thing, not just the case. It's also out of stock. For my 99, I was able to buy new cases, and swap over the original Volvo guts and essentially have new fobs. I've done the same with my Chevy truck.

Is there a DIY procedure for programming, or does it need a dealer's computer?

It has been a very long time since I had a -98 car. I thought they were self programmable, whereas 99- were dealer only. Hopefully someone else will chip in that knows for sure and the process.

Performed another Xmas Day radiator replacement in her 855GLT.

Did this 4 years ago to replace a radiator that had busted one of it's mounts off with a cheapy used one I had on the shelf in the garage.

This year it got a new Nissens one when that one started leaking.
