What's wrong in this picture? 06 S60 R

I found out where the clunk is coming from.

This video was taken while a helper cycled the shifter, looping through (Drive, Neutral, Reverse, Neutral, ...)

If the spline wearing is not on the bearing I'll be swearing.

I replaced the CV axle 8 months ago with a GKN (rebuilt). Hub bearings still all original on this car.

Get a new hub , join the failed bearing club, and head to the pub.

Why is the axle not turning? Even if the hub has stripped out I'd have thought the inner end and the whole axle would be spinning, but the hub not turning if the wheel hub splines were shot. Are you sure the inner end of the axle has not pulled out from the trans?

Video was taken with the car parked and foot on the brake.

The car drives well, just has a clunk from front left when loading/unloading the drivetrain. Axle fully seated in the trans. Axle nut is tight and doesn't move with the clunks.

The idea is splines are bad enough to slip the small bit, but not fully stripped. Alternatively, the bearing is just wobbling but I'd expect to feel that on the road. Won't really know until I open it up, which may be not for a bit ...

If I recall right I did my 02 S60 without too much trouble. Just fit with a thinn’ish wall socket and didn’t have to dismantle the whole front suspension.
