The rest of the story:
This was Chitty !, a one off race car built in 1921 from a Mercedes chassis and a 23 liter, 6 cylinder Maybach aero engine. It won two races at Brooklands. Chitty 2, 3 and 4 were also built on Mercedes chassis with various large displacement engines.
These cars inspired Ian Fleming, of 007 spy fame, to write a children's book about a flying car of similar style. The book was produced as a movie, Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang in 1964.
You would be hard pressed to make up all of this true history.

Yes, 23 LITERS. 3.83 Liters PER CYLINDER. 234 Cubic inches PER CYLINDER. 1404 cubic inch total displacement.
Chitty 4 had 27 liter V12 Liberty aircraft engine.
