Re-reading a big part of the part cost is the backup sensor which is integrated, I think.

A design where that sensor could snap out and into a new plastic bezel would make sense from a repair standpoint

They actually did it correctly on this one. BliS sensor is secured with 4 bolts and has a good meaty rubber gasket around it. New light with blis is around 1100. Plus 200 for Ford tech to "write" the vin to the new sensor. So ateast was able to escape that fate. I honestly miss good ol days when you could just change electric part without need to clone/adapt/program..

I am shocked. For $640(granted I paid $431) to receive an oem light which is utilizing self tapping screws for blis module/sensor(x4, but honestly was not too terrible to install), but the 2 main ones holding the light to the truck bed....I used Volvo ptfe silicone grease on them and was slowly turning them in(about 5-10 degrees, stop, move to other screw, wait...repeat), all this while praying to volvo gods to finish this job without cracking the plastic...somehow it went well...but oem part for so much money and not to have proper pretapped screw holes or better aluminum threads...rip off...
Just as I finished it and decided to swap wife's xc60 for dad's xc60 to help with some maintenance...200 feet from the home "reduced engine performance" message and check engine light..probably inch exhausted my good grease with volvo gods on my ford...my bet it is a throttle body since engine seems to be working well. But currently have no idea test to look into it. Prius for the win
