Be careful with that fuel load until you understand what your gauge is reading. The AWD gauge totalalises , so if you have resistance in one side you can run out of gas at 6 gallons indicated. Plan on 20 mpg and fill every 80 miles if you can only put 4 in at time.

When I had multiple drivers of 8 cars, our Fuel Commandment was full at 1/4 in winter, 1/8 in summer or whenever you borrowed Moms chariot

My rule is no less than 1/4 tank all year around. More important in summer as the fuel cools the pump.

The measurement issue may be only the level sensors being at fault, not the tank capacity and ability to transfer from one side to the other. That would be an issue only if the fuel return pressure valve in top of the tank failed to return pressure to the LHS of the tank as it uses that to transfer fuel to the other side. What I don't know is if the level sensor has any control on how much fuel is in either side of the tank.

Pre-fuel pump replacement I was averaging 17.5 MPG (measured by pump/tripodometer and the trip computer measured the same), which I could do about 220-230 and be at a quarter tank. Currently been filling up at ≈70 miles of driving.

Have seen improvements in MPG’s since ECU recalibrated for higher fuel pressure (I’m pretty sure that’s how it works, feel free to correct), but still playing it as safe as I can. I don’t want to burn out a brand new ($300) pump either

Some updates on oil here (viewtopic.php?t=108130&start=20) and fuel/gas gauge here (viewtopic.php?t=108158&start=20)

Between these, the EVAP system, and all 3 of the left side speakers suddenly being significantly quieter than the right (I checked the panning, wasn't it), there's quite a number of things to juggle. I wasn't exactly expecting have to be a part-time circus juggler in order to take care of a classic car, but here we are

Good news though is she's seeing less miles per week, which to some extent means more car work time

Of note on the EVAP system, before I go out and purchase things I'm wondering on the viability of replacing p/n: 1270480 with two of p/n: 1275226, a t-connector (need to find a good part number for this), and some silicon hosing? I came across some discussion on it but nothing that ever fully came to fruition

I documented the sizes in the thread below but did not find a T connector, I reused the Volvo one.

I am going to guess your 1998 xc70 has a ejector pump on this vacuum line - a short 12 cm long thingy with two vacuum lines on each rod and then a funny one angling acutely out the side? This is an extra vacuum “pump”that keeps your brake booster empty of air/full of vacuum under boost .

How can something be full of vacuum? Under vacuum? Evacuated? If you lose vacuum, aren’t you under-vacuumed?

Time to vacuum the couch….

Update to fuel gauge inaccuracy, solved by loose connector on the pump assembly inside the fuel tank. (link:viewtopic.php?t=108158&start=30)

Up next is getting all the stuff ready for tacking various oil leaks, which already has a thread (link: viewtopic.php?t=108130&hilit=oil+leak+puzzle)

Thank you very much for this! It’ll certainly come in handy when I get in there soon, and when it comes time for a later-down-the-road project of adding the VAST PCV catch can into the system

Thanks!

Installed new IPD spark plug wires to replace what I deduced to be the original spark plug wiring, Saskia runs much smoother and with a noticeable increase in peppiness. Replaced due to age and suspected cause of a hesitating stutter when needing more oomph from the engine on hot days. Working theory is the increased heat was causing enough electrical resistance in the old wires that an inadequate amount of voltage was making it to the spark plugs (following Ohm's law of voltage = current * resistance).

Beginning a replacement of numerous oil components (namely seals)
