I was 20 in 1976. I remember many commercial efforts to 'SELLibrate' the 'BUYcentenial' but not much of celebration. I was attending summer classes at college that summer.
Chevrolet offered several models with red, white and blue pin stripes on white cars. My brother had a 1976 Impala years later with this trim.

Found some interesting info about this.
