CR-814 is not working. CD flashes (which it is suppose to do according the manual) but the radio will not turn on nor is there a COD message. There are no other messages either (not OFF or EEEEEE). I tried my six digit code and then hitting AUT but nothing happens. Also waited the correct amount of time and tried again. Even tried unhooking the battery and starting over. Perhaps the radio is done? Fuses check out, as well as the 5 amp fuse on the back of the radio.

I have an equalizer on the radio and if it is gone, I would like to replace it with another CR-814 but was wondering if the SC-811 (which was in the later models 960, S90, 850 and S70) would fit. I realize that I would have to lose the equalizer since on the 940 it is positioned right below the radio.

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

A belated answer but I have been away.

If you are getting no display at all then either the radio is U/S, or it is not getting 12 volts or the earth (ground) is bad.

The fuses are intact but have you checked, with a voltmeter or test light, that 12v is actually at the 5amp fuse on the rear?

The SC 811 should fit as they are generally the same size.

Update - purchased another CR-814 radio and it works but another problem surfaced. Volume is seriously low. Radio has to be turned to highest setting just to hear anything. I suspect that the AMP went bad. Tried the radio w/o the AMP plugged in and the volume was the same. Any other way of checking out the AMP? Just to double check - I put the old radio back in and now it works as well but same problem - next to no volume.

Have you checked fuse #26 which covers the amplifier?

On the wiring diagram there is no mention of an equaliser. Is this a factory fit or after market?

Fuse 26 (Audio) checks out ok. Volume is barely audible and not clear.

Graphic equalizer VOLVO EQ-611. I installed it after having the car for two years. 201000 miles, original owner.

Have you tried taking the equalizer out of the circuit?

Have you checked the DIN lead from the head unit to the amp?

If you have an ohmmeter check each pin for continuity. Also check for bent or broken pins in both the head unit and the amp.
