Front Passenger Window Replacement - 2001 V70-T5

Post by balanceact »

Thieves are a pain in the butt.. a busted front passenger window just to get an old junk cell phone which was actually pretty well hidden.

Now I'm left with the not so fun part: Replacing the window. I got the glass which was surprisingly reasonable $120 and I've pulled off the inside panel cover on the right front door. I've removed all but a few grains of glass from inside the door panel with a small hose jury rigged onto my shop vac but really I haven't much of a clue how to install the window.

I got the old blue sliding mechanisms with their tight clamp pins (that look like thick bobby pins) off the two scissor arms of the window mechanism and now I'm stuck.

My guess is I will have to remove all the moldings and lower the window mechanism to get the window into the frame but even then I'm not sure how in the hell I will get the new sliding mechanisms on to the little ball joint ends o the two scissor arms. I pulled the locking pins out of the new sliders but those still look very difficult to press on to the ball joints.

AND I have a double problem! I can't lower the window arms more than a couple of inches. And the dealer said that the window mechanism has to be down to install the window.

I got this car out of salvage 4 years ago and that was one of those things that never worked right. The window motor seems fine, sounds right but the window only goes down 2 inches and up to the full close position. My suspicion is some lever was reattached wrong when it was repaired during salvage and so the window doesn't operate through its normal range.
